Abstract:

Aristote et Platon voient dans les échanges économiques l’un des premiers liens à l’origine de la vie sociale. Pourtant, selon Aristote, la spécialisation individuelle des métiers et des fonctions que Socrate propose dans la République pour édifier la cité sur la base de ces échanges économiques, la segmenterait au lieu de l’unifier. L’objet de cet article est de montrer, au contraire, que cette cité doit en partie son unité à ce principe. Loin de la diviser, il double en effet la réciprocité “négative” des échanges économiques fondateurs, ancrée sur l’intérêt propre, d’une réciprocité politique positive bénéfique pour l’unité de la cité.
