Philosophy and Women. Implications of an Approach to Ethics on the Basis of a Perspective of Gender
Vol 5, No 9 (2004) • Filosofia Unisinos - Unisinos Journal of Philosophy
Autor: Maria da Penha Felicio dos Santos de Carvalho
Resumo:
An alleged natural incompatibility of women with knowledge has been affirmed in the course of Western tradition. This paper discusses the relationship of women to the exercise of thinking by focusing on three aspects: 1) women as subjects of philosophical discourse; 2) women as objects of philosophical discourse; 3) women as readers of philosophy. Special attention will be given to the third aspect, as the article points out possible theoretical and practical implications of a critical re-reading of ethics from the point of view of gender.
