Resumo:

O objetivo deste artigo é formular uma noção geral de morfologia que funcione como uma metodologia para a pesquisa em história das ideias e das culturas científicas. Essa noção inspira-se na monadologia leibniziana e busca fundamentação teórica nas noções de ideia-unidade de Lovejoy e de forma simbólica de Cassirer. Os resultados obtidos provêm da aplicação desse método no estudo de dois conceitos morfológicos do século XVII: o de assinatura das coisas naturais e de palingênese. O primeiro refere-se a uma doutrina que afirma uma ligação entre as formas dos órgãos vegetais e humanos que revelam o uso terapêutico das plantas para o tratamento de doenças específicas destes últimos. Outra versão da teoria afirma que estas assinaturas são internas e devem ser procuradas por meio da análise química. A palingênese é a ressuscitação da forma essencial de um corpo que foi destruído. Ela é tratada neste artigo como um procedimento químico-alquímico aplicado à palingênese artificial das formas vegetais. A conclusão principal obtida a partir desses resultados é que a morfologia é uma ideia-unidade e uma forma simbólica que se expressou no século XVII através de uma relação dialética entre internalidade e externalidade dos seres naturais que oscila entre os domínios do mito e do conhecimento. É tal oscilação que se apresenta como um objeto da cultura científica morfológica investigada.

Abstract:

The objective of this article is to formulate a general notion of morphology that has the function of a methodology for researching the history of scientific ideas and cultures. This notion is inspired by Leibnizian monadology and seeks theoretical foundation in Lovejoy's notions of and Cassirer's symbolic form. The results obtained come from the application of this method in the study of two morphological concepts from the 17th century: the signature of natural things and palingenesis. The first refers to a doctrine that affirms a link between the forms of plant and human organs that reveal the therapeutic use of plants to treat specific diseases of the latter. Another version of the theory states that these signatures are internal and should be sought through chemical analysis. Palingenesis is the resuscitation of the essential form of a body that has been destroyed. It is treated in this article as a chemical-alchemical procedure applied to artificial palingenesis of plant forms. The main conclusion obtained from these results is that morphology is a idea-unity and a symbolic form that was expressed in the 17th century through a dialectical relationship between internality and externality of natural beings that oscillates between the domains of myth and knowledge. It is such an oscillation that presents itself as an object of the investigated morphological scientific cultures.
