Resumo:

O objetivo deste texto é articular a epistemologia de John Locke com a sua interpretação bíblica. Pretendemos mobilizar os conceitos de razão, crença, revelação e de milagre no seu Ensaio sobre o entendimento humano com alguns textos de Locke voltados para sua hermenêutica bíblica. Nossa hipótese de trabalho é que não há diferença metodológica entre o trabalho de interpreta- ção epistemológica daquele que lida com a exegese bíblica. O procedimento é rigorosamente o mesmo. Para fornecer maior inteireza argumentativa ao texto, ele contém duas partes. Na primeira, analisaremos os conceitos de razão, fé e revelação, presentes no Essay. Na segunda, pensaremos sobre as recomendações de Locke para ler os textos sagrados, em A Paraphrase e, finalmente, o problema dos milagres, sobretudo, no Miracles. Assim, entendemos que a leitura do Essay é propedêutica para decifrar os textos sagrados. Esperamos que este texto possa colaborar com os estudos de Locke no Brasil, de modo particular, no que con- cerne à epistemologia da crença.

Abstract:

The purpose of this text is to articulate John Locke’s epistemology with his biblical interpretation. We intend to mobilize the concepts of reason, belief, revelation, and miracle in the Essay Concerning Human Understanding with some of his other texts focusing on biblical hermeneutics. Our working hypothesis is that there is no methodological diHerence between his work on epistemological interpretation and that on biblical exegesis. The procedure is strictly the same. To provide greater argumentative completeness, the text contains two parts. In the first, we will analyze the concepts of reason, faith, and revelation, present in his Essay. In the second, we will think about Locke’s recommendations in A Paraphrase for reading the sacred texts. Finally, we will examine the problem of miracles, especially in Miracles. We understand that the reading of the Essay is propaedeutic to decipher sacred texts. We hope that the present work may collaborate with Lockean studies in Brazil, particularly those concerning the epistemology of belief.
