Resumo:

L’articolo analizza la funzione dell’immagine nei Saggi di Montaigne individuato da un duplice movimento, che è di presa di distanze dall’esistente e di ridefi nizione dell’esistente nei termini di nuove forme, criticamente consapevoli, di abitare il mondo. A tal fi ne, l´articolo prende in considerazione alcuni temi-chiave che possono essere riscontrati nei Saggi (l´autodescrizione, la critica al sapere sensibile, la deformità e la critica all´abitudine) con l´obiett ivo di rifl ett ere sul potenziale ontologico della immagine come Bildung e sul modo in cui tale potenziale si riverbera nella concezione montaigneana dell´arte di vivere e in particolare di come, non la teoria, ma la pratica dell’immagine apra lo spazio per una defi nizione creativa, ma non arbitraria, dell’esistente.

Abstract:

The paper analyzes the function of the image in Montaigne´s Essays identifi ed by a twofold movement, which is one of distancing oneself from the existent and redefi ning the existent in terms of new, critically conscious forms of inhabiting the world. To this purpose, the article considers some key themes that can be found in the Essays (self-description, the critique of sensible knowledge, deformity, and the critique of habits) with the aim of refl ecting on the ontological potential of the image as Bildung and how this potential reverberates in the Montaignean conception of the art of living and in particular how, not the theory, but the practice of the image opens the space for a creative, but not arbitrary, definition of the existing.
